Biotin is soluble directly in water at 0.22 mg/mL, a 1 mg/mL solution is water is not achievable. However, this product is tested for solubility at 50 mg/mL in 2 N NaOH. Concentrated stock solutions prepared in NaOH may then be diluted in buffer, medium, or water to the desired concentration. The solution stability, when stored at ?20 °C, has not been investigated. The end user would have to determine stability. As a general practice, avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Note that some versions of classical medium, such as Ham’s F12 (see product N6658) include D-Biotin. These sterile liquid media are stable for approximately 1 year at 2–8 °C. Similar stability would be expected for sterile Biotin stock solutions.

Application
La biotina se ha utilizado:

- en cultivo con precursores bioquímicos para la síntesis de novo de ácidos grasos

If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.

Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If I would like to make 1M biotin stock (B4639), what would be the best way?

A 1 M solution of biotin would require a concentration of 244 mg/mL. The maximum solubility tested for this compound is 50mg/ml in 2M NaOH or NH4OH, which results in a 204 mM solution. Similar rates have been reported for DMSO. Heat and agitation may improve the solubility. However, a precipitate may form upon cooling. A search of the literature did not reveal a more efficient solvent for Biotin. The preparation of a 1M solution would have to be determined experimentally.
