Questions

  1. What is the chemical compatibility? Not compatible with "some" organic solvents is not helpful. What about alcohols? Methanol? Ethanol? Isopropanol?

    1 answer
    1. These polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) cuvettes are intended for use with aqueous solutions. The solutions can contain weak acids such as acetic acid or weak bases such as sodium bicarbonate, or they can contain detergents. Glycerol and ethylene glycol (or aqueous solutions of those compounds) can also be used. But the cuvettes are NOT compatible with chlorinated solvents such as chloroform or methylene chloride, esters such as ethyl acetate, ketones such as acetone, aromatics such as benzene or toluene, or low molecular weight alcohols such as methanol, ethanol or isopropanol. Information on the compatibility of PMMA with alkanes such as hexane, heptane or cyclohexane is inconsistent, so it would be best not to use those.
