Application

Acetylcholine chloride has been used:
  • as an agent to trigger sudomotor axon reflex response during autonomic test[1]
  • to induce contraction amplitude of pyloric circular smooth muscle strip (PCSMS) in rats[2]
  • as a substrate for acetylcholinesterase[3]
  • to stimulate after discharge in Aplysia bag cell neurons[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Acetylcholine chloride, injected at 20 mg/kg body weight, reduces mortality and plasma proinflammatory cytokines in mice with experimentally-induced sepsis . The cholinergic anti-inflammatory mechanism is probably mediated by interaction of acetylcholine with α7n cholinoreceptor on monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils, which decreases the levels of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6.
Endogenous neurotransmitter at cholinergic synapses; amplifies action potential of the sarcolemma thereby inducing muscle contractions.

Very hygroscopic

General description

Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter released at nerve endings in both the central and peripheral nervous systems.[1] Acetylcholine chloride (C7H16ClNO2) is a stable cholinergic agonist with muscarinic and nicotinic actions.[5] It is available as white or off-white hygroscopic crystals, or as a crystalline powder. Acetylcholine chloride is hygroscopic in nature and is highly soluble in water, alcohol, propylene glycol and chloroform.[6]

Questions

1–5 of 5 Questions
  1. Hi, is the reconstituted product safe to be used without any special precautions under a biological hood?

    1 answer
    1. The product must be used under a fume hood. It is highly hygroscopic, meaning that prolonged exposure to air will result in increased water uptake. According to the product Safety Data Sheet, it is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. What are the recommended storage conditions for item A6625, Acetylcholine chloride, after reconstitution?

    1 answer
    1. The stock solution can be stored at temperatures below -20°C for several months. It's advisable to prepare and use the solution on the same day. However, if necessary, stock solutions can be prepared in advance, provided they are sealed and stored below -20°C. Typically, the stock solution remains stable for several months. Prior to use, it's recommended to allow the vial to reach room temperature for at least an hour before opening it.

  5. Hello, what should be the storage condition of the ACh. I could not find any information about it in the SDS document or in the web site. Because it is pretty gyroscopic. Thank you.

    1 answer
    1. The product is stored at room temperature.
