Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. What is the solubility of the following chemicals: 1) Poly(9-vinylcarbazole) 2) P110010 -- Polyvinyl butyral?

    1 answer
    1. For Poly(9-vinylcarbazole) solubility, it is soluble in THF, chloroform, chlorobenzene, and dichlorobenzene. P110010, which is Polyvinyl butyral, is most soluble in a mixed solvent system such as ethanol/toluene, methanol/methyl ethyl ketone, etc.

  2. Does Polyvinyl butyral bind to glass?

    1 answer
    1. Polyvinyl butyral is commonly used as a hot-melt adhesive to bind glass panels together for windows and other applications. It is known for its high tensile strength and its ability to bind glass splinters, making it a popular choice as an interlayer film in laminated safety glass.

  3. what is the degree of acetylation and purity of the PVB? Density and molecular weight of the PVB?

    1 answer
    1. The only quality control testing performed for product P110010 is for appearance and viscosity. There is no testing performed on a lot-to-lot basis for density, purity, degree of acetylation, or molecular weight.
The website does state that "Polyvinyl butyral resin similar to Butvar® B-98 for thin film support in electron microscopy."

For Butvar B-98 the following information is available:
Butvar® B-98 has the following characteristics (see https://productcatalog.eastman.com/tds/ProdDatasheet.aspx?product=71095422&pn=Butvar+-+B-98#_ga=2.208860571.827911750.1655887049-264082885.1655887049):
      - Molecular weight: 40,000 - 70,000 (Size exclusion chromatography with low angle laser light scattering standard)
      - % of hydroxyl content (as PV alcohol): 18.0 - 20.0%
      - % of acetate content (as PV acetate): 2.5% maximum

  4. What is the molecular weight of thisPVA?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the molecular weight is not a measured characteristic for product P110010. However, as stated on the product detail page, "Polyvinyl butyral resin similar to Butvar® B-98 for thin film support in electron microscopy." B-98 has a reported molecular weight range of 40 kDa - 70 kDa.
